John and Tom Weaver, father and son, established Weaver Consulting International (WCI) Ltd in 2014 to provide specialist expertise to livestock and, broader, agricultural interests worldwide. We established WCI in recognition of the value of allying sound technical practice and context specific experience to address the needs of agricultural interests. 

John is a qualified veterinarian and veterinary epidemiologist with over 30 years experience in livestock industries worldwide, including 15 years in tropical regions.

Tom has a multidisciplinary background with expertise in both the pure and social sciences; he has worked in tropical agricultural development for 10 years. 

We maintain extensive global networks of national and international technical specialists from a wide-range of disciplines.

TOM WEAVER, MA, PhD (Molecular epidemiology)

John is a New Zealand veterinary epidemiologist with more than 15 years experience working in Asia, and more broadly, to develop and implement disease control and prevention programmes for Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs) including foot-and-mouth disease, highly pathogenic avian influenza, peste de petits ruminants and classical swine fever.  He has extensive international experience (World Bank, FAO, OIE and others) in evaluating national veterinary services and developing plans for their strengthening, and the development of public-private partnerships and the implementation of supply chain quality assurance programmes to promote animal and veterinary public health. He has designed, developed and implemented prevention and animal disease control programmes including the delivery of training courses for various aspects of veterinary services such as emergency management, early detection/surveillance, disease prevention and control, risk analysis, livestock identification/traceability and movement control.    

Tom has worked for a variety of agricultural development and commercial interests internationally, including research, management and technical advisor positions on USAID, ECHO, EU, FAO, IFAD, ACIAR, ADB and the World Bank projects. Tom's employers include specialist technical research institutes, development agencies and private interests such as the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), FAO and DAI Ltd. Tom has a multidisciplinary background with technical skills in the agricultural sciences, economics, food safety and animal health and production. A strong oral and written communicator, Tom has a proven record in delivering a wide range of technical and policy related assignments, primarily in Asia and the Pacific. Tom has a PhD in molecular epidemiology from the University of Melbourne.
